Show and sale of Blackface lambs

A packed ringside attended the annual show and sale of blackface in lamb females on Saturday where a record entry were forward. A large contingent of buyers from all over Scotland and Ireland insured a strong trade throughout resulting in a 90% clearance. At the show prior to the sale the judge Mr. Elliot Bowman, Upper Cragabus, Islay awarded the championship to a gimmer from Tom Renwick, Williamhope she was sired by £13,000 Blackhouse out of a £16000 Midlock Ewe sold in lamb to £8000 Nunnerie. The judge backed his decision when he purchased her for 1900 Gns. The reserve was also a gimmer this time form Andy Woodburn at Netherwood, She was by a £18000 Elmscleugh and sold in lamb to £8000 Midlock she was later sold for 4000 Gns to Grant Bros, Kilcoo, Co Down.

Top price of the day was 5000 gns for a gimmer from John Harkin, Loughash for a gimmer by £3000 Dalchirla sold in lamb to £20000 Loughash who was purchased by Charlie Gallacher, Ballybofey, Co Donegal.

Another feature of the sale was 2 embryos being offered for sale from 2 Noted flocks. Top price of 3000gns was paid for from Hugh and Alan Blackwood, Auldhouseburn. Of which was by the record price £160000 Dalchirla out of a Ewe by £8000 Crossflatt which has been one of the best breeding familes at Auldhouseburn taking this one was E Fraser from Newtonmore. The other embryo was consigned by John Murray, Crossflatt which was by the noted ram Spectre out of a £13000 Midlock Ewe who is the mother of £26000 Crossflatt
