Blackface Female Show & Sale 2015
A packed ringside saw a strong demand for Blackface Females at the annual in lamb female show and sale at Lanark on Saturday, where 17 females sold for 2000gns and over. 51 lots were sold to average out at £1644 (up £269 on the year, with only four unsold). The 15 ewes averaged £2317, while gimmers levelled at £1301 for 35 sold and an embryo from Crossflatt sold for £3570.
Trade peaked at 4200gns for an Auldhouseburn gimmer, sired by Bolt and out of a £65,000 Auldhouseburn dam. She was sold to the west coast to Donald McVicar, Lephinchapel, Strachur and David and Jock Jackson, Pole, Lochgoilhead and was carrying twins to £90,000 Blackhouse.
The judge Robert McTaggart from Glen Farm, Gatehouse of Fleet picked his Champion from Archie and John MacGregor, Allanfauld, Kilsyth from a very strong class of ewes. This was a four-year-old ewe sired by Tenacious D and carrying twins to The Beast (a son of £25,000 Crossflatt), she sold for 3800gns across the water to Donald Breslin, Cronkeerin, Ardara. Reserve champion went to Midlocks gimmer, by a home-bred son of £25,000 Nunnerie. At 2800gns, she sold in-lamb to a home-bred son of £50,000 Dalwyne, to Neil and Stuart Barclay, Harestone, Banchory.
Three females made 4000gns, the first from John and Charlie Harkin from Loughash, Strabane was a three year old ewe, by The Buffalo, she was in lamb to £25,000 Nunnerie and went back across the water to Victoria Fullerton, Drumard, Northern Ireland. First time consignor David Morrison from Dalwyne in Ayrshire had a worthwhile trip when he received 4000gns for a daughter of £32,000 Crossflat, in lamb to £50,000 Dalwyne, this one crop ewe went to John Harkin and Charlie Gallagher, Northern Ireland. The other ewe which made 4000gns was from Ewan MacMillan, Lurg Farm, Fintry. A daughter of £50,000 Pole she also went to John Harkin, Loughash, Northern Ireland. This ewe was carrying twins to £15,000 Midlock.
Loughash sold the first ewe in the ring for 3600gns, this daughter of £50,000 Pole, scanned twins to £25,000 Nunnerie went to Ewan Macmillan, Lurg.
John Murray from Crossflatt in Muirkirk sold a ewe carrying an embryo. This was out of one of his best ewes in the flock in lamb to £90,000 Blackhouse and went to Hugh Blackwood, Auldhouseburn for 3400gns. Audhouseburn also bought a two crop ewe from Crossflatt for 3000gns, she was by £26,000 Crossflat and carrying twins to McCoy.
Andy Woodburn, Netherwood sold to a top of 3200gns. This gimmer by £2400 Crossflat was in lamb to £24,000 Nunnerie and sold to Robert Loughery from Limavady.
