Lawrie & Symington to host UK’s annual show and sale of Blackface Ewes
Lawrie & Symington is primed to host the country’s only annual show and sale of top quality in-lamb Blackface Ewe Gimmers and Empty Ewe Hoggs, later this month.
Scotland’s premier livestock auctioneers will host the much anticipated event on Saturday 24th February at its Lanark mart. The show is scheduled to start at 10:30am, with the sale due to kick-off at 12:30pm following judging. The top judge will be Mr. Eoin McKenna, from Maghera, Co. Derry in Northern Ireland.
The highest selling ewe in the 2017 sale went for 5,200 gns followed by a further two lots at 5,000 gns. Brian Ross, the Lawrie & Symington auctioneer taking to the rostrum for the sale, anticipates another strong showing at this year’s event, with over 100 ewes expected to go under the hammer.
Commenting on the upcoming sale, Brian said: “This annual sale is a fixture of the UK agricultural calendar because the quality of Blackface Ewes on offer simply cannot be matched anywhere else. This unrivalled choice has led to sustained growth in the popularity of the sale year on year and we expect a big turnout on the day with potential buyers travelling from across the whole of the UK and Northern Ireland.”
Hamish McCall, managing director of Lawrie & Symington, added: “It’s great to see such a high level of interest in this year’s sale from both buyers and sellers throughout the country. This strong showing reflects the sterling work of our own auctioneers in previous sales, as well as the ongoing resilience of the sheep market.”
Entries for the sale close on Friday 16 February. For more information, please visit: The Blackface Sheep Breeders’ Association Facebook page.
